Hey there, this is Doctor Denis Chang from Optimize Health Chiropractic Center here in Miami Lakes, and today I want to talk about something that surprises a lot of parents… chiropractic care for babies.

Now, I know what you might be thinking. You’re picturing those big adjustments you see in videos, and you’re wondering how that could possibly work for an infant. Let me put your mind at ease right away. Adjusting a baby is nothing like adjusting an adult. Nothing at all.

When I work with infants, I’m using about the same amount of pressure you’d use to check if a tomato is ripe. That’s it. We’re talking gentle, sustained contact… sometimes just holding specific points with my fingertips. It’s so light that babies often sleep right through it.

So why would a newborn even need chiropractic care? Well, think about what they just went through. Birth is tough work, even in the easiest deliveries. Whether it’s a natural birth or a caesarean section, there’s pressure and movement happening to that little spine and those tiny joints. Sometimes the baby’s neck gets compressed or twisted during delivery. That can create tension in the upper spine and nervous system.

Here’s what I see all the time in my office. Parents bring in a baby who’s constantly fussy, has trouble nursing on one side, always turns their head the same direction, or deals with colic and digestive issues. A lot of times, these things are related to tension in the spine affecting how the nervous system functions.

When we gently adjust an infant, we’re helping restore normal movement to those joints and taking pressure off delicate nerves. And parents often tell me their baby nurses better almost immediately. They’re calmer, they sleep longer stretches, and that unexplained crying reduces dramatically.

I’ve been doing this for years, and it’s one of the most rewarding parts of my practice. Watching a mom tear up because her baby finally isn’t screaming for hours every night… that never gets old.

Now, is it safe? Absolutely, when performed by a chiropractor trained in pediatric techniques. We use completely different approaches than we do with adults. No twisting, no popping, no forceful movements. Just gentle, precise pressure.

If you’ve got a little one at home who seems uncomfortable, has feeding challenges, or just isn’t settling the way you’d expect… it’s worth having them checked. The earlier we can address these issues, the better.

And look, you don’t have to wait for a problem. A lot of families bring their newborns in for a wellness check within the first few weeks of life, just to make sure everything’s moving properly after birth. Think of it like a tune-up for their developing system.
